Breaking down the 2021 Giants regular season schedule

It’s playoffs or bust for the Giants after spending big in free agency and going all-in on Daniel Jones for 2021. The home schedule should help Joe Judge’s cause. The road schedule will not.

The Giants have won more than six games only once in the last seven seasons. The NFL’s expanded 17-game regular season schedule should help them get there this fall.

But they have made the playoffs only once in the last nine years. It won’t be easy this season, either, even in the lowly NFC East.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 12 vs. Broncos, 4:25 p.m.

Will Denver’s QB be Aaron Rodgers or Teddy Bridgewater? That likely dictates the result. I think it will be Rodgers.

Prediction: 27-17 loss

Record: 0-1

Week 2: Thursday, Sept. 16, at Washington, 8:20 p.m.

No one can predict Ryan Fitzpatrick. Not even Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Prediction: 23-20 win

Record: 1-1

Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 26, vs. Falcons, 1 p.m.

The Giants can’t be a competitive team in 2021 and lose this game.

Prediction: 31-17 win

Record: 2-1

Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 3, at Saints, 1 p.m.

Daniel Jones has four career road wins in 13 games: at Washington (twice), Tampa and Cincinnati (a game he didn’t finish). Beating the Saints in the Superdome?

Prediction: 25-18 loss

Record: 2-2

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 10, at Cowboys, 4:25 p.m.

Micah Parsons’ first chance to hunt an NFC East foe that traded back rather than draft him.

Prediction: 31-28 loss

Record: 2-3

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 17, vs. Rams, 1 p.m.

The Giants nearly nipped the Rams in L.A. last season, but Sean McVay didn’t have Matthew Stafford, either.

Prediction: 35-9 loss

Record: 2-4

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 24, vs. Panthers, 1 p.m.

Matt Rhule, once considered the Giants’ first choice to replace Pat Shurmur, takes on Judge, whom the Giants believe was the right choice.

Prediction: 16-10 win

Record: 3-4

Week 8: Monday, Nov. 1, at Chiefs, 8:15 p.m.

The Giants will have a chance at beating Patrick Mahomes if they score 40 points and don’t turn it over.

Prediction: 41-24 loss

Record: 3-5

Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 7, vs. Raiders, 1 p.m.

Kenny Golladay has a big day against the silver and black’s secondary.

Prediction: 27-20 win

Record: 4-5

Week 10: BYE

A 4-5 record is much better than the Giants’ 1-7 start in 2020 and 3-7 mark at the bye.

Week 11: Monday, Nov. 22, at Bucs, 8:15 p.m.

Tom Brady was fortunate to win on Monday night on the Giants’ turf in 2020. Now he makes them kiss the rings.

Prediction: 30-20 loss

Record: 4-6

Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 28, vs. Eagles, 1 p.m.

Easy to feel confident when your opponent has a track record of tanking games.

Prediction: 24-17 win

Record: 5-6

Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 5, at Dolphins, 1 p.m.

Will Miami’s QB for this game be Tua Tagovailoa … or Deshaun Watson? I still think the Dolphins upgrade. If they don’t, the Giants win this.

Prediction: 28-21 loss

Record: 5-7

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 12, at Chargers, 4:05 p.m.

The Giants’ familiarity with SoFi Stadium, facing a rookie coach who has Justin Herbert learning a second offense in two years. Road upset.

Prediction: 23-20 win

Record: 6-7

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 19, vs. Cowboys, 1 p.m.

A healthy Dak Prescott is a dangerous Dak Prescott.

Prediction: 35-21 loss

Record: 6-8

Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 26, at Eagles, 1 p.m.

DeVonta Smith turns into the Giants’ Grinch.

Prediction: 20-17 loss

Record: 6-9

Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 2, at Bears, 1 p.m.

The Giants hold Chicago’s 2022 first-round pick, so they still have plenty to play for.

Week 18: Sunday, Jan. 9, vs. Washington, 1 p.m.

The Giants sweep Washington again but remain on the outside looking in.

Prediction: 23-13 win

Final regular season record: 8-9. Not good enough in a win-now year.
